The Days of Awe are a time when we are deeply aware of our duty to care for one another and the world around us. At Sha’arei Tsedek we seek to follow the Torah’s guiding principles of חסדים גמילות gemilut chasadim – acts of kindness, מעשים טובים ma’asim tovim – good works and צדקה tzedakah – charity.
This year we are supporting The Karen Morris Memorial Trust and Sha’arei Tsedek.
The Karen Morris Memorial Trust was set up to continue the fundraising initiative of an extremely popular RSY-Netzer Shemesh-Summer camp and Israel tour leader. Karen passed away aged 23 having lost her year-long battle with chronic myeloid leukaemia. The Trust currently funds four Karen’s Home from Home centres for leukaemia patients and their families (at Hammersmith Hospital, the Churchill in Oxford, Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham, and Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge) with the fifth scheduled to open at the Derriford in Plymouth late 2024. Karen’s Homes offer comfortable, well-equipped surroundings and relieve the stress of daily travel and hotel expenses.
This year we are including our synagogue in the Days of Awe Appeal. We especially need your support for general repairs to our beloved building and for our educational programmes, in particular our high-quality Religion School and B’nei Mitzvah programmes, in which we are proud to invest, and are a priority for us. Our programming is vital in welcoming many new families who are looking for a genuine Jewish home into our community.
