Festival Services

Selichot

Saturday 13 September

20:00 – Study session and Havdalah

The evening opens with a study session and Havdalah, which will be in person only.

21:00 – Selichot (In person and online)

Selichot- meaning ‘prayers of repentance’ – is the late-night service that introduces the Days of Awe through the unique prayers and powerful music of this season, sung by our Sha’arei Tsedek choir and soloists.

Rosh Hashanah I

Tuesday 23 September

(JCoSS – In person and online)

We look forward to bringing the whole community together into one space at JCoSS on Rosh Hashanah morning.

10:00 – 12:45 Festival Morning service

10:00 – 12:15 Teenager Rosh Hashanah Workshop

Led by musician Judith Silver together with Rabbi Shulamit Ambalu.

10:30 – 11:00 – Rosh Hashanah themed activities for younger children, up to year 6. We ask parents to accompany their children if they are young enough to need supervision.

11:00 – 12:15 Children and Family service

Featuring special music and prayers of the season, our service will be led by Eve Rhodes, our own young leaders, and musician Sammy Kornhauser.

12:15 – Children and teenagers rejoin main service and the whole community to hear the shofar.

12:45 – Kiddush

17:00 -Taschlich

Tashlich, a simple ceremony that marks the release of sins in the symbolic form of breadcrumbs into flowing water, takes place in an outdoor location in East Barnet, followed by tea in a members’ home nearby. Please contact the office on 020 8445 3400 for more details.

Yom Kippur

Kol Nidre

Wednesday 1 October

Fast begins at 18:24

19:30 – Evening service

Kol Nidre prayers are an integral part of Yom Kippur; this is the first of the six services that make up this extraordinary day.

 

Yom Kippur

Thursday 2 October

Services take place throughout the day and conclude with the end of the fast.

10:30 – Festival Morning service

Led by Melvyn Yude initially, together with Director of Music Louise Katin and the choir.

10:30 – Breath of Forgiveness

An hour of breath work and guided meditation with Claudia Chapman.

10:30 – Teenager only Workshop

With Judith Silver together with Rabbi Shulamit Ambalu.

11:00 – Activities for younger children with snacks. We ask parents to accompany their children if they are young enough to need supervision.

11:30 – Children and Family service

Led by Eve Rhodes, young leaders and musician Sammy Kornhauser.

12:45 – Mussaf – Additional service

15:15 – Study session

“Here I am with the scroll of myself” – Study session led by Gill Lazarus and Rabbi Shulamit Ambalu.

We ask anyone planning to join us to bring one verse from the Torah that describes your values or your life story at this moment. This is a participatory workshop.

16:00 – Mincha – Afternoon service

17:15 – Yizkor – Memorial service

18:10 – Neilah – Closing service

18:00 – Children and family tea in the sukkah

Children and families are invited to join us for tea in our sukkah and to stay on afterwards for the service.

Our Morning service will include a special Yizkor Memorial service, marking the anniversary of October 7.

We bring the Days of Awe to an end, concluding the reading of the Torah, and beginning a new cycle.
