Yahrzeit Requests

If you would like the name of a family member to be read out and Kaddish to be said for them on Shabbat Morning please hand details of their name (including Hebrew name) to the warden/service leader on Shabbat Morning.

If you are unwell and are unable to attend the Shabbat Morning service and we have an online service that week please contact the synagogue office and they will pass on the details to the warden/service leader.

Bereavement

Bereavement is always a shock, whether the person has died after a long and difficult illness, or whether it was sudden. Sha’arei Tsedek members, and those who choose to join as Friends Plus, are automatically enrolled in our Burial Scheme, which is managed by the Jewish Joint Burial Society (JJBS). Members of our scheme choose to be buried either at the Western Cemetery, Cheshunt, or the JJBS Woodland Cemetery, Cheshunt. Alternatively, cremations can also be arranged. Our rabbis visit the sick and dying, care for families during the final illness, conduct funerals, and offer support to the family by arranging and leading shiva prayers following the funeral, along with our team of lay leaders. At such a vulnerable time, our Chesed Care Group reaches out to mourners, and we work together to ensure that the shloshim (thirty-day period) is remembered in synagogue every Shabbat, and the anniversary is marked every year.

In the event of a bereavement, please call JJBS on 020 8989 5252. You can contact our on-call rabbi in the event of an emergency by calling us on 020 8445 3400. Both lines operate 24 hours a day.
