Selichot

Saturday 13 September

20:00 – Study session (In person only)

The evening will begin with a study session, followed by Havdalah to mark the end of Shabbat.

We will read, discuss and listen to some of the prayers written, mainly in Israel, in the past 11 months following October 7.

Come and join us to discover how new versions of traditional prayers, poems and meditations are being composed for today. Led by Rabbi Shulamit Ambalu.

Selichot is a night time service that follows the final Shabbat of the Jewish Year.

Introducing the music and themes of the Days of Awe, and featuring Sha’arei Tsedek’s rich and evolving musical tradition, our choir and soloists.

We look forward to bringing the whole community together into one space at JCoSS on Rosh Hashanah morning.

10:00 – 12:45 Festival Morning service

10:00 – 12:15 Teenage service

10:30 – 11:00 Rosh Hashanah themed activities for younger children, up to year 6. We ask parents to accompany their children if they are young enough to need supervision.

11:00 – 12:15 Children and Family service

12:15 – Children and teenagers rejoin main service and the whole community to hear the shofar.

12:45 – Kiddush

17:00 -Taschlich

This simple ritual involves symbolically casting away the actions we regret in the form of breadcrumbs into flowing water.

Join us for a festival morning service followed by kiddush in the sukkah. Our service will include a special Yizkor marking the anniversary of October 7.

Simchat Torah

We bring the festival season to a joyous and musical conclusion at both services with music from Koleinu, celebrating both the end and the beginning of another year of Torah.
